Juniors

In 2000, the Syosset Volunteer Fire Department recognized the need to attract and retain young members that were willing, but unable – due to age, to participate in learning how to become a firefighter and/or EMT.

The Syosset Fire Department Juniors is comprised of roughly 75 members. Minimum age requirement is 12 with the permission of parents or legal guardian. They meet on a regular basis and, participate in activities and training scenarios that provide the foundation for continuation towards active firefighter or EMT status when they reach 17 years old.

Each member is issued equipment and a uniform from their officers (group of peers) and active Syosset Volunteer Fire Department “advisors”. Members are encouraged to participate in trainings, to help out around the fire house, and to attend other Department functions. Juniors also “march” in official parades with the Department at functions throughout the year.

Our Juniors meet twice a month, at night, at our Woodbury firehouse.

If you are in high school and are interested in learning about firefighting, EMS and being a part of a team of great young men and women who make a difference, the Juniors Program wants you!
